Google report reveals many smart widgets have dumb owners

A survey conducted by Google and Ipsos into US gadget behavior has creeped up the type of  results which reveals a broad section of customers don't really know what they are doing. The mobile movement: Understanding Smart phone users study is of more than 5,000 US smart phone owners and even though Google draws its conclusion from what folks are actually using their widgets from it's even more interesting what percentage are not using the familiar attributes. So, the assertions that 81 per cent of smart phone owners browse the internet, 77 per cent search and 68 per cent use an application raise some interesting questions.

According to the survey it has been seen that not more than 19 per cent of smartphone users use the internet apps, and the fact that 32 per cent a staggering percentage don't use an application is, well, mystifying.  Considering apps are highly important to a smart phone , you do wonder if the  folks surveyed understood the survey questions, or if it's true that just under a third of folks are forking out for a posh widget when they could have been better served by a feature gadget.  And, given the earlier findings, the fact that 95 per cent of those surveyed have used their smart gadget to look up local info does beg the question 'using what?'.

That 48 per cent of folks use a video makes a lot more knowledge, and is possibly of the fact that  the gadget video usage is dismantled by price and the obstacles in converting home libraries for use on portable gadgets.  And seven per cent of the participants in the survey claim they don't use their smart widget at home. "Smart gadgets have become an integral part of users' daily lives," suggests Google. People use smart phones as an extension of their desktop computers and use it as they multi-task and consume other media. Given the downright odd findings you might be forgiven for suggesting that some of these smart widgets are considerably smarter than their owners.
